This note focuses on guidance to help ensure effective governance of the LEP.
Successful partnering between public and private sector organisations depends upon a framework of good governance that engenders trust and open communication while providing a basis for operating. Effective governance creates an environment for successful project to be delivered and provides the mechanism for feedback and review.
This note dicusses the key steps for putting in place an effective LEP governance framework.
The key steps for effective governance
The following steps are key in developing an effective LEP governance framework:

Discussing what an effective governance framework will look like, the key roles within it and who can best fill them

Establishing a shadow governance structure to oversee development of the final framework

Ongoing review of the governance structure by the LEP Board and Strategic Partnering Board

Using local authority resources such as Partnership Management Groups to provide expert assistance

Using external third party revieweres to ensure the governance structure is maintained
-
Using diagnostic or health-check tools to carry out periodical self-assessments
-
Being proactive in addressing any governance issues

Using established knowledge networks to bring objectivitiy to any issues
