Sedgehill School
Region: London
Local Authority: Lewisham
Opening Date: January 2009
Sedgehill is a mixed, 11-18 comprehensive school, the largest in Lewisham. The new school is built for 1750 pupils, with 1500 11–16 pupils and 250 sixth form pupils. The new school, which opened in January 2009, replaces one originally built on a green field site in 1958 - extra land was purchased to accommodate the new extended buildings.
Sedgehill’s status as a performing arts specialist school is reflected in its excellent drama and dance facilities, with four studios and a central external performance space.

The school also has excellent sports facilities, enhanced by a floodlit artificial surface hockey/football pitch that will also be used by the community.
The new school is much more energy efficient than the one it replaced. Despite providing an ICT-rich environment, the carbon footprint of the new school is approximately half (55%) that of the old school. This is helped by the use of biomass pellet boilers and photovoltaic and solar thermal panels.
