Wave 1: First schools opened September 2008

Schools opened:
- Gorton Education Village, which incorporates Cedar Mount High and Melland SEN High School, opened in September 2008.
- Newall Green's first phase also opened in September 2008.

Manchester's Wave 4 BSF projects launched in April 2007.
Manchester is among the first wave of cities to develop Academies centred on innovative partnerships between education providers and local businesses. The programme has been devised to support skills creation within the six growth areas of the city and wider region. Sponsors are now board for all six Academies. Place Group has been appointed as the project management consultant to work alongside Manchester City Council and its partners to deliver the programme.
