The Secretary of State for Education has now announced details of capital funding to schools and local authorities for 2011-12.

Two contractors - Wates and Sir Robert McAlpine - have been named as the firms in the running to design and rebuild a Doncaster school worth around £10.5 million, which suffered significant fire damage in December 2009.

The Department for Education (DfE) has today announced the outcome of the review of Building Schools for the Future (BSF) sample schools and Academy building projects which were listed as 'for discussion' on 5 July 2010. The DfE website has further information on today's announcement, including a list showing the impact of the announcement on all sample school and Academy projects reviewed.

Partnerships for Schools (PfS) - the organisation responsible for management and delivery of the full suite of schools capital programmes, including Building Schools for the Future, Academies and the Primary Capital Programme - has welcomed the review announced today by the Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Michael Gove.

In recent months we have added a number of new case studies to the collection, including: A look at the vision behind Academy 360 and how this became a reality; a focus on the adiZone at Sutton Lawn in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire; a look at Broadway School in Birmingham which was decanted to provide a speedier route to the construction of a new school; and how pupils at Acklam Grange School in Middlesbrough have been involved in the development of their new school.

Cumbria County Council was has been given the go-ahead to join the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. Schools Secretary Ed Balls announced today [5 April] that £61.5m would be invested across the county as part of the once-in-a-generation programme to rebuild or refurbish England's entire secondary school estate. The total is indicative funding and includes £5.5m for ICT.

Thirteen more schools from Knowsley in the north to Southwark in the south will open in new or refurbished learning environments in January 2010 as part of the national Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Academies programmes. This brings the total number of pupils to benefit from BSF investment to around 125,000 in 146 schools across England.
