Telling transformation: live link-up for Leicester school

26 August 2009

The headteacher of Beaumont Leys School in Leicester, Liz Logie, will be beamed into the Partnerships for Schools (PfS) Annual Conference in London for two live broadcasts on 10 September to give delegates the chance to see educational transformation in action.

The conference – hosted by BBC Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis – will also feature sessions with John McDonough, CEO of Carillion, John Bangs, Assistant Secretary for Education and Equal Opportunities, NUT and a speech from Sir Steve Redgrave.

Beaumont Leys School opened six weeks ahead of schedule in April this year as part of the national Building schools for the Future (BSF) programme. During the broadcast the Beaumont Leys story will be brought to life and Ms Logie will be looking forward to their first full year in their new state-of-the-art facilities.

Tim Byles, Chief Executive, Partnerships for Schools, said: “As the delivery organisation for Building Schools for the Future and Academies, and from 1 October all school building and refurbishment programmes including primaries, it is important that we share latest developments, information about what works well and what lessons we have learned so far with schools, local authorities and the private sector on a regular basis.

“The PfS Annual Conference 2009 will enable local authorities and the private sector community to have ‘one conversation’ on all schools capital matters and I look forward to working together to ensure that, collectively, we make a real difference to the life chances of every young person in England.”

Notes to editors:

  1. Originally set up to deliver the BSF programme, PfS’s responsibilities have also grown during the year with the Government asking PfS to manage and deliver all school building and refurbishment programmes, including the Primary Capital Programme, and the £200m co-location fund.
  2. The programme of events is designed to establish an open and frank conversation between PfS and the schools capital community, creating opportunities for all involved to hear first-hand about latest developments and have the opportunity to engage and discuss views and experiences with the PfS team.
