BSF school wins 'Best operational local government project' award
01 May 2008
The BSF Bristol Brunel Academy has been named as the ‘Best operational local government project’ award in this year’s Public:Private Finance Awards.
The team involved with the Bristol Brunel Academy, the first BSF school to be delivered by a Local Educational Partnership (LEP), beat Canning Town Housing PFI and Croydon Council and Interserve to the top prize.
Judges were impressed to hear how the new-build school was delivered on time and on budget, and that since opening in September 2007, there is a marked improvement in educational outcomes. They also noted that the school is receiving an excellent service from the facilities management provider, including the operation of co-located leisure facilities for the community ahead of schedule.
The judges added: 'There has been a particular emphasis on building relationships with the community. Community use has been high, including the drama studio, sports hall and flood-lit artificial turf pitch. The LEP focused on ensuring that local clubs are given a priority to help strengthen the links between Bristol Brunel Academy and local people.'
Tim Byles, Chief Executive of Partnerships for Schools, said: 'This award for the team involved in the Bristol Brunel Academy is well-deserved recognition for their hard-work and dedication – although the greatest recognition remains the fact that students, staff and local people now enjoy spending time in the school.'
