Press release: Sheffield LEP awards SPV contract

21 September 2007

CorLa has been awarded a Contract to supply SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) and LEP (Local Education Partnership) management services to the Sheffield Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Project.

The Project, initially in Phase 1, is for three schools delivered through PFI (Private Finance Initiative) route and one school through a Design & Build Contract. The overall scheme is valued at £400m and will eventually rollout to all secondary schools in the city, ensuring that every secondary school in the city will have been rebuilt or radically refurbished by 2015.

The consortium to build the schools is made up from Sheffield City Council, Taylor Woodrow and HSBC Infrastructure and BSFi.

Brian Pluck, Operations Director for CorLa, said: “We are excited to become part of the Sheffield BSF Programme and to enter into a long term relationship with Sheffield LEP. This is a significant Contract for us and supports our growth in education based projects.”

Notes to Editors:

  1. Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is the largest single schools capital investment programme for over 50 years. The aim is to rebuild or renew every one of England’s 3,500 secondary schools, with an investment of on average around £2.5-£3 billion a year.
  2. Partnerships for Schools (PfS) is the delivery agency for Building Schools for the Future. It was established in April 2004 as a Non-Departmental Public Body, and is operated and funded under a joint venture between Department for Children, Schools and Families and Partnerships UK.
  3. Sheffield City Council (SCC) was selected as a BSF Pathfinder Authority alongside Bristol, Bradford and Greenwich therefore developing benchmarks for the future progression of BSF nationally.
  4. Sheffield has 27 mainstream secondary schools and 5 special educational needs secondary schools. Through the BSF programme, PFI initiative and Academies investment, all secondary schools in Sheffield will be rebuilt or refurbished by 2015.
  5. Paradigm, a consortium led by Taylor Woodrow Construction with the HSBC Bank, is working with Taylor Woodrow Facilities Management, Civica plc, HLM and BDP Architects to deliver the BSF Sheffield programme.
