Press release: Select Committee report on BSF published
09 August 2007
The House of Commons Education & Skills Select Committee today published its report into BSF.
Tim Byles, Chief Executive of Partnerships for Schools welcomed the report saying:
“The Committee has carried out a comprehensive review of Building Schools for the Future and identified a number of key issues, which we have already taken steps to address. As a result, the BSF programme is in a much stronger position and is set to be delivered on time and on budget.
“The Committee is absolutely right to focus on ensuring that BSF is done well rather than just done quickly. Ensuring that new BSF schools do help transform education and make a real difference to young people, teachers and wider local communities has to be the primary objective.
“Making sure that students, teachers and local people have the opportunity to say what they want and need from their new schools is an essential part of the process and we are now seeing some excellent examples of this.
“As the Committee recognises, there is no other project like Building Schools for the Future anywhere in the world. We are working hard to help transform education for millions of young people, enabling them to unlock the talent that every single one of them has. Important lessons have been learnt from the early days of the programme and we will continue to work with Local Authorities and their private sector partners to ensure that these are shared.”
